“Cosmetic surgery is where medicine meets art—my goal is to enhance each patient’s natural beauty while preserving the features that make them uniquely themselves.”
Can you tell us about your medical background and what led you to specialise in cosmetic surgery?
I am a Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeon and Craniomaxillofacial Consultant. I completed my plastic surgery residency at Udayana University, where I built a strong foundation in reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. I later pursued a craniomaxillofacial fellowship at Showa University in Japan, further developing my expertise in facial surgery and the complex soft tissue and skeletal structures of the face to restore both function and natural facial harmony.
I chose cosmetic surgery because it is a field where medicine meets art. With a lifelong passion for art, this specialty allows me to combine creativity with surgical precision—helping patients heal while enhancing their confidence. What inspires me most is the opportunity to create natural, beautiful results that respect each individual’s uniqueness and bring out the best version of themselves.
What procedures do you most commonly perform, and which do you feel most passionate about?
I perform a wide range of cosmetic procedures, including facial rejuvenation, body contouring, and breast surgery. My practice includes procedures such as facelift, eyelid surgery, liposuction, tummy tuck, arm and thigh contouring, as well as breast augmentation, breast lift, breast reduction and other cosmetic surgeries.
Among these, I have a particular passion for facial rejuvenation surgery. The face is incredibly complex and expressive, which makes facial surgery both technically demanding and artistically rewarding. These procedures require a deep understanding of facial anatomy, balance, and the subtle changes that occur with aging.
What I enjoy most is creating results that look natural and harmonious with each person’s unique features. My approach focuses on enhancing and restoring rather than changing how someone looks.
My goal is for patients to appear refreshed, vibrant, and confident while still looking like themselves. Every face tells a story, and I aim to enhance that story in a way that feels authentic, timeless, and true to each individual.
How do you approach patient safety and decision-making, especially for patients travelling internationally?
Patient safety is always my top priority, especially for patients traveling internationally for surgery. My approach begins with a thorough consultation where I carefully evaluate the patien’s condition and determine whether surgery is appropriate and safe. I also discuss the patien’s goals in detail to ensure their expectations are realistic and achievable. If a patient’s expectations do not align with what can be realistically and safely achieved, I believe it is important to have an open and honest discussion, and in some cases I may decline to proceed with surgery in the patient’s best interest.
Before moving forward with any procedure, I make sure the patient’s preoperative condition is suitable for surgery. This includes reviewing their medical history, medication history, and overall health, as well as identifying any factors that may increase surgical risk or affect recovery.
I also explain the procedure in detail, including how the surgery is performed, the potential risks involved, and how those risks are managed. Preparing patients for the recovery period is equally important. I provide clear postoperative instructions and discuss what they should expect during healing so they can recover safely and comfortably.
For international patients, careful planning and clear communication are essential. My goal is to ensure that every patient feels well informed, safe, and confident in their decision before proceeding with surgery.
How do you ensure patients feel supported before, during, and after surgery?
Ensuring that patients feel supported throughout their surgical journey is very important to me. I begin by providing a thorough explanation of every stage of the process, including the preparation before surgery, what happens during the operation, and what patients can expect during recovery. I believe that when patients clearly understand the process, they feel more comfortable and confident moving forward with their decision.
Before surgery, I make sure patients are well prepared both medically and mentally. During the procedure, patient safety is always my highest priority. All surgeries are performed in internationally accredited hospitals that follow strict safety standards to ensure the highest level of care.
After surgery, I closely monitor my patients through routine follow-up visits. For international patients, routine in-person follow-up can sometimes be challenging due to travel distance, so clear communication becomes even more important. I encourage patients to provide regular updates about their recovery and long-term results so I can monitor their progress and ensure that healing is going well.
My goal is to ensure that patients feel supported, cared for, and confident throughout the entire process, from the initial consultation to full recovery.
What has been the most rewarding experience in your career as a doctor so far?
One of the most rewarding aspects of my career is seeing how surgery can positively impact a patient’s confidence while still preserving who they truly are. My goal is always to create natural results so patients feel more comfortable and confident in their own skin while still looking like themselves. It is especially meaningful when this transformation also motivates patients to take better care of their health. I have had several patients who decided to stop smoking after their surgery and continue maintaining a healthier lifestyle. Knowing that my work can contribute not only to improving appearance but also to encouraging healthier habits and overall well-being is incredibly fulfilling for me as a doctor.
What advice would you give to someone considering cosmetic surgery for the first time?
For someone considering cosmetic surgery for the first time, my advice is to take time to carefully research and understand the procedure you are interested in. It is important to communicate openly with your surgeon and discuss all the details about the surgery, including the preparation before the procedure, what happens during the operation, and the recovery process afterward.
Patients should also clearly communicate their goals and expectations so the surgeon can evaluate whether those goals are realistic and achievable. Honest communication between the patient and the surgeon is essential for achieving a safe and satisfying outcome.
Feeling nervous before surgery is completely normal and is part of the process. The most important thing is to stay informed, trust the process, and be patient with the recovery journey. Good results take time, and proper healing is an important part of achieving the best outcome.
